NORTHWEST PANAY PENINSULA NATURAL PARK

A wetland is a land area that is saturated with water, either permanently or seasonally, such that it takes on the characteristics of a distinct ecosystem.

The Northwest Panay Peninsula Natural Park is located on the island of Panay, in the provinces of Aklan and Antique Province of the Philippines which was proclaimed a Natural Park by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on 18 April 2002 . It is also an important watershed. The forest of the Natural Park channels the water from the rains into a system of springs and rivers that provide water for over 100,000 inhabitants. The water for Boracay Island and the hundreds of thousands of tourists that visit there every year is also provided by the Northwest Panay watershed.

hfnhtThe last significant stands of primary, low elevation rainforest in the biogeographic region of the West Visayas, located on the northwestern peninsula of Panay, is habitat of a range of highly endangered, partly endemic species of frogs, reptiles, birds and mammals. It is one of the hotspots with the highest conservation priorities in the world, both in terms of the number of endangered flora and fauna per unit area, and the degree of threat these species confront. Philippine biodiversity per unit area is globally unsurpassed.

  2. I like your blog about Panay Peninsula Natural Park. I can say that it was just one of the proofs that our country can really be considered as one of the most beautiful places in the world when it comes to natural resources. Good thing that you shared this location to inform people (especially the tourists) that there was this place just near the famous Boracay beach. Anyone going to the beach should also visit here to experience the true beauty of nature and witness different species of animals. I might add this one to my list of places that I want to go to in the future, good job!

  3. Philippines is blessed with a rich ecosystem and biodiversity, among other Asian countries. With the advancement of the modern world, however, nature is being exploited, abused, and neglected. We depend on these natural resources so much, that we could not bear to lose it. But this fact seems to be lost in site of the many companies, and developers. It is good to know that Panay has made its efforts in preserving these gifts of nature, one way or another. Nature, in general, is a very important resource that a country, especially a developing country could never afford to waste. I hope that the government has seen or can see this truth and will do everything in their power to protect and preserve the one thing that keeps us alive.
